13 October 1855 A very brief report of the crime is given in the Birmingham Journal Saturday 13 October 1855 p.11 col.4: Richard White, brassfounder, for stealing a handkerchief from the person of Samuel Baker, six weeks [in prison], and afterwards to be detained in the Saltley Reformatory for three years.

10 January 1857 In the Reformatory Minute Book it states: 366. A letter was read from Messers Wm Harrison & Son agreeing to take R White as an apprentice.

Resolved: that an application be made to the Secretary of State to allow Richard White to leave the Institution and to enter upon the situation and to enter upon the situation promised by Messrs W Harrison & Son

23 March 1857 The Minute Book records: 414. Mr Ellis reported that Elkington [boy 83] and Wright could be employed, the former by a reputable tinsmith, and the latter by his father.

415. Resolved: that an investigation be made of each situation, and to report at next meeting. Confirmed [this word subsequently added].
