23 January 1858 There is a brief report of his offence in the Staffordshire Advertiser Saturday 23 January 1858 p.4 col.5: At Leek, on the 21st instant, before John Cruso and John Russell Esqrs, and the Rev H T Heathcote, Albert Brooks [surname spelled thus], of Derby Street, and Albert Frost of Albion Street, both under twelve years of age, were each sentenced to 21 days' hard labour, and on its expiration to be sent to the Reformatory School, for cutting off and stealing two brass taps, the property of Messers Wm Brough and James Smith, on the 18th inst.
19 May 1859 detected stealing dough and absconded with Booth [boy 140]. Was caught and punished.
10 February 1860 returned home and was apprenticed to a cooper at Burslem.
26 December 1860 Heard of living at home and working for Mr Martin (?) in Leek in Wreford's Mill. "Has behaved well since he came home."
