27 March 1858 There is a very brief report of his crime in the Gloucestershire Chronicle Saturday 27 March 1858 p.4 col.6: Thomas Okey for stealing lead from Mr J Smith, 14 days imprisonment, and two years at Hardwicke Reformatory.

9 April 1860 Returned to his parents at Gloucester

1 January 1861 Heard of as cabin boy to Captain Macdonald, South Shields. Had an excellent character and at this date is on a voyage to Alexandria.

November 1862 Bound for four years in the brig Morning Star of Gloucester. Owner of the brig said he was "a very good boy indeed and gave every satisfaction to the captain and officers."
