27 August 1870 There is a report of the crime in the Derbyshire Courier Saturday 27 August 1870 p.7 col.8: STEALING FRUIT.- William Clough and Samuel Allen, both aged ten years, of Wirksworth, were charged with stealing from a garden, the property of Michael Mason. of Wirkswortb. on the 19lh inst.-The prisoners pleaded guilty, and Clough was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, afterwards to be sent to a reformatory for five years. and the other defendant was sentenced to 14 daya' imprisonment.
