24 June 1871 There was a report of the crime in the Birmingham Daily Post Saturday 24 June 1871 p.6 col.5: YOUNG CRIMINALS. - George Dickinson (14), 1 Court, George Street, shoe finisher, and Job Hancocks (12), 62, George Street, ironcaster, were charged with stealing four pigeons, the property of William Beebe, 50, Water Street. They were sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment, and Dickinson to be afterwards sent to a reformatory for four years and Hancocks for five years.
