This is confirmed in a letter from the Hanley Chief Constable: Dear Sir - Robert Jones - Enquiries have been made respecting this boy, and I find that he is working at Mr Bowles' Foundry and earning 14s per week. He has been there for the last month, and previous thereto was employed at Mr Merton's(?). Yours truly, Herbert Windle, CC
