Notes:

22 July 1876 There is a report of the crime in the Dudley Herald Saturday 22 July 1876 p.6 col.5: THE RESULT OF BEING NEGLECTED. -Two boys named Joseph Walker and William Morris, of Pebble Fold, were charged with having stolen a frock and jacket, value 2s., from the stall of Elizabeth Barnett. The prisoners have been allowed to run the streets at all hours, and frequently wander about the market, where they were on Monday week, when they stole a child's frock and jacket from the stall of the prosecutrix. The frock was sold by them for 3d. to a Mrs. Jones, of Broad Street.-Both prisoners had been previously convicted. As, however, there was some doubt about Morris taking the articles in question, he was discharged, but Walker was sent to gaol for a month, and after the expiration of that period he will be sent to a reformatory for five years. The Bench censured the woman Jones for buying the frock.

17 May 1881 Wrote to Walker's parents to ascertain if they were in a position to find their son employment in their neighbourhood

2 June 1881 Wrote to Mr Rose, baker, of Moxley, near Bilston, on the boy's behalf

3 August 1881 8 strokes upon the hand for pilfering wood and giving it to people passing along the lane

15 August 1881 Walker leaves today and goes to All Green to work in a forge with G Roper

23 August 1881 Writes from Bilston to say he is working at a baker's shop. Has applied for some of his mark money

31 December 1881 Hear from Dare [boy 547], who has been home for the Christmas Holiday, that Walker is in prison
