28 June 1878 There is a report of the offence in the Staffordshire Sentinel Friday 28 June 1878 p.3 col.5: A YOUNG PAUPER SENT TO AN INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL. - Isaac Cumberbatch, about thirteen years of age, was charged on remand with stealing a quantity ef butter the property of the Guardians of the Chell Workhouse, whilst an inmate of the institution. - It was proved that prisoner had been accustomed to stealing butter or anything else he could lay his hand upon. - The Magistrates committed him to gaol for one month, and ordered that at the expiration of that term he should be sent to an industrial school for four years.

3 May 1882 Cumberbatch licensed this day to a Mr W Locket, 147 High Street, Winsford, Cheshire
