17 July 1880 There is a brief report of the crime in the Staffordshire Sentinel and Commercial and General Advertiser Saturday 17 July 1880 p.6 col.2: An Incorrigible Boy. - Thomas Brearley [surname spelled thus], twelve, was charged with having stolen a door key from the house of Charles Hewy, baker, Sandford Hill, on the 8th inst. - Prisoner, a very bad lad, was sent to gaol for a month, and after sent to a reformatory for five years.
