22 April 1883 There is a letter from his mother attached to the Admissions Register: court 31, Hospital Street. Mr J W Plummer - Sir, I received your note of the 16th but forgot to say there was no satisfactory information in answer to my letter as regards my having my son Thomas at home to enable me to keep a home over our heads. If he has got to wait till August next or longer how is it that some can be freed 15 months previous to the expiration of their time as he has now only about 10 months? If I could have him at home it would save me selling my goods out of the house which I shall have to day, as I could find him good employment at once. If you will please think the matter over and by letting him come home give his mother a chance to keep a home together you will confer a favour on yours very respectfully, A Cain [surname spelled thus]
